Holy Mass

celebrated by Archbishop Władysław Ziółek

Creative Communities Church, ul. Skłodowskiej-Curie 22

Retired Archbishop of the Lodz Archdiocese, PhD in canon law.

Archbishop Ziółek is a very important person for the Church of Creative Communities. He has been accompanying successive initiatives taken by our community — Ministry of Creative Communities, Rectoral Church in Maria Curie-Skłodowska street, Logos Theatre, Christian Culture Festival and finally the Logos European Centre of Culture.

Archbishop Ziółek has always known that cultural events constitute an essential element of Christian activity in the contemporary world. He valued artists’ efforts and accompanied them in the discovery of further greatness of the world of art. He also realized that such activity needed support, not only through prayer. As a young student in Rome he inhaled the atmosphere of the Second Vatican Council and when he returned to Łódź, he actively participated in the development of the Light-Life Movement, the presence of which in the Church, so evident today, was a completely new phenomenon.

Archbishop Władysław Ziółek was strongly linked with John Paul 2 who appointed him in 1986 the new bishop of the Łódź diocese. As a young ordinary he succeeded in inviting the Pope to Łódź. This visit, on 13 June 1987, even though of one day only, has been until today one of the most important events of the local Church. After the fall of communism in 1989 he persevered in developing a network of parishes, especially there where their creation was hampered during the previous regime.

Today, as a retired ordinary, he is still active and participates in the most important events of the archdiocese.
