Zakopane Witkacy Theatre is a particular stage on a map of Polish culture. It was established in 1985 as an initiative of students and graduates of the Acting and Drama Directing Factulty of PWST in Crocow as space to realise artistic independence and common search. The most important feature of the spectacles is for the actors of the Zakopane theatre their metaphysical experience, giving the audience “the weirdness of existence”, dialogue with every one unique viewer.

The theatre from Zakopane will present “Foe” in ŁódĽ, a play by Julien Green (1900-98), a French writer of American origin, the author of dramas, journals and novels which touch upon psychological, moral and philosophical problems. The motives so characteristic for his works were the darkest sides of life and characters of the reprobates. In his early works, Green analyses human feelings and his later works reflect his turn towards Catholic faith and presents fight between the good and the bad.

“Foe” (“L’ennemi”) was written in 1954. The scenery for the performance is a summer house, the atmosphere of which is created by people and demons. A step-brother of a man comes for a visit at night and with him comes the foe. Who he really is — the answers are many.
